How do I register a trademark in Qatar?
A trademark is registered with the Ministry of Commerce & Industry. We run an availability search, classify the mark and file the application, respond to any examination objections, steer it through publication and the 60-day opposition window, and collect the certificate. Registration lasts ten years and is renewable indefinitely.
Can a foreign company register a trademark in Qatar?
Yes. A foreign owner can file a national application in Qatar through a local agent, or designate Qatar through the Madrid System — the Madrid Protocol entered into force for Qatar on 3 August 2024, making it the 115th member of the Madrid Union. We act as your agent for either route.
How long does trademark registration take?
It depends on the examination queue, whether objections are raised, and whether a third party files an opposition during the 60-day window after publication. We give you a realistic view of the timetable for your specific mark before you file, and we tell you as soon as anything moves.
What does trademark or patent registration cost?
Official fees depend on the number of classes and the territories you want covered; our fees depend on the scope of work. We quote in writing before anything is filed, so there are no surprises after the fact.
Does Qatar protect industrial designs?
Yes. Qatar’s Industrial Property Office began accepting industrial-design applications on 26 October 2025, under Law No. 10 of 2020 and its implementing regulations. A design is protected for five years from the filing date, renewable twice, to a maximum of fifteen. Because the register opened so recently, most products in the market are still unregistered — which makes early filing unusually valuable.
Do you handle company formation and government transactions?
Yes. Alongside intellectual property, we handle commercial registration and company formation, businessmen (PRO) services, usufruct registration, and transactions with the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Interior and the Municipality — in cooperation with Qatar Toon.
What is the difference between a brand and a trademark?
Nothing substantive. "Brand" is the everyday word; "trademark" is the statutory name for the same right. The practical difference is registration: an unregistered brand is a name you use and somebody else may also use, while a registered trademark is a right you can assert before the authorities, at customs and in court.
Does my commercial registration protect my brand?
No. Reserving a name in the commercial register is a different procedure from registering a trademark. You can hold a CR in one name while somebody else registers the same name as a trademark — and be barred from using your own name on your own products. Because we do both, we check both from the outset.
Can I register a logo, not just a name?
Yes. A trademark can cover a name, a logo, a symbol, the styled form of a name, distinctive packaging, and combinations of words, letters and numerals. At the search stage we assess which forms of your mark are worth filing and which add no real protection.
What if somebody registers my brand before I do?
Marks in Qatar go to whoever files first, not whoever used the name first, and there is no grace period. If somebody has filed ahead of you, the options depend on the stage of their application, how similar the marks are and what evidence of use you hold — one of them being opposition within the 60-day window after publication. Tell us immediately; this is a problem that worsens with delay.
What happens to the details I send through the contact form?
They are used to answer your enquiry and nothing else. We do not use them for marketing and do not sell them, and they are never passed to our analytics — the only cookies this site can set are the Google Analytics ones you are asked about on arrival, and only if you accept.
