Intellectual Property · Lusail, Qatar
Your mark,legally yours.
Marka is an intellectual property and business-services firm based in Lusail, Qatar. We register, protect and enforce the trademarks, copyright and ideas that set your business apart — and handle the company formation and government paperwork behind them.
Intellectual property services
Complete protection for everything you create.
From a single trademark to a full patent portfolio, we handle registration, protection and enforcement at every stage — in Qatar, across the GCC and through the international treaty systems.
Trademark registration & renewal
We search, file and prosecute your marks with the Ministry of Commerce & Industry — through examination, the 60-day opposition window and certification — then keep them alive with disciplined renewal and recordal.
Copyright & neighbouring rights
Protection arises the moment a work is created. We advise on ownership, licensing and neighbouring rights, and handle voluntary registration to give your literary, artistic and software works evidentiary weight.
Patents
National patent applications under Law No. 30 of 2006 and PCT national-phase entry, with annuity management that keeps protection continuously in force.
Industrial designs
Qatar opened design filings in 2025. We secure protection for the shape, pattern and appearance of your products under the new regime — early, while the register is still young.
Enforcement & anti-counterfeiting
Customs recordal for border seizures, cease-and-desist, oppositions and cancellations, and action through the Qatari courts against infringement and counterfeit goods.
International & GCC filing
Designate Qatar through the Madrid System, file outbound international applications, and coordinate national filings across all six GCC states and the wider Arab region.
Portfolio management
One considered view of every mark, deadline and territory — renewals docketed, assignments and name changes recorded, and watch services that flag conflicts before they cost you.
IP due diligence & licensing
IP audits for investment, M&A and financing; and the drafting, recordal and structuring of licence, franchise and assignment agreements.
Business & government services
Company formation and government paperwork, handled end to end.
Protecting a brand is rarely the only thing a business needs. In cooperation with Qatar Toon, Marka completes transactions across the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, the Ministry of Interior and the Municipality — so your team never queues.
Company formation in Qatar
Trade-name reservation, commercial registration (CR) issue and amendment, articles of association, partner and manager changes, and branch registration.
Businessmen & PRO services
Day-to-day government transactions run start to finish — submission, follow-up, collection and attestation — with one point of contact and a clear status at every stage.
Usufruct rights registration
Registration and attestation of usufruct rights and the related documentation before the competent authorities.
Ministry of Justice transactions
Powers of attorney, contracts, attestations and documentation prepared and processed through the Ministry of Justice.
Interior & Municipality permits
Establishment files, permits, signage approvals and renewals with the Ministry of Interior and the Municipality.
Commercial licensing & renewals
Trade licences and municipal approvals issued, amended and renewed on schedule, with every deadline docketed alongside your IP portfolio.
Government services are delivered in cooperation with Qatar Toon.
Why Qatar, why now
Qatar’s IP landscape has changed more in three years than in the previous twenty.
The rules protecting your brand are being rewritten in real time. Filing early — and correctly — is now a competitive decision, not a formality.
A framework being rebuilt
The GCC Trademark Law took effect in 2023, Qatar joined the Madrid Protocol in 2024, and industrial-design filings only opened in 2025. Yesterday’s assumptions no longer hold.
First-to-file, with no second chances
Trademarks and patents belong to whoever files first, with no grace period. A right filed late is a right lost.
An anchor of Vision 2030
Qatar National Vision 2030 stakes the country’s future on a knowledge economy. Intellectual property is the infrastructure that makes ideas ownable — and fundable.
Enforcement with teeth
Recorded rights can be defended at the border, in administrative proceedings and before the courts. But protection only works if the right exists first.

The firm

We pair close knowledge of Qatar’s evolving framework with the reach to protect your rights across the GCC and through the international treaty systems. The result is advice that is local where it matters, and global when it counts.

Common questions
Trademarks, patents and paperwork — answered.
How do I register a trademark in Qatar?
A trademark is registered with the Ministry of Commerce & Industry. We run an availability search, classify the mark and file the application, respond to any examination objections, steer it through publication and the 60-day opposition window, and collect the certificate. Registration lasts ten years and is renewable indefinitely.
Can a foreign company register a trademark in Qatar?
Yes. A foreign owner can file a national application in Qatar through a local agent, or designate Qatar through the Madrid System — Qatar joined the Madrid Protocol in 2024. We act as your agent for either route.
How long does trademark registration take?
It depends on the examination queue, whether objections are raised, and whether a third party files an opposition during the 60-day window after publication. We give you a realistic view of the timetable for your specific mark before you file, and we tell you as soon as anything moves.
What does trademark or patent registration cost?
Official fees depend on the number of classes and the territories you want covered; our fees depend on the scope of work. We quote in writing before anything is filed, so there are no surprises after the fact.
Does Qatar protect industrial designs?
Yes. Qatar opened industrial-design filings in 2025, protecting the shape, pattern and appearance of a product. The register is still young, which makes early filing unusually valuable.
Do you handle company formation and government transactions?
Yes. Alongside intellectual property, we handle commercial registration and company formation, businessmen (PRO) services, usufruct registration, and transactions with the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Interior and the Municipality — in cooperation with Qatar Toon.
